Abstract
|
|
|
Primary epithelial neoplasms of the liver in infants and children are rare in comparison to those
arising in kidneys, adrenal glands, eye, central nervous system and lymphopoetic system.
The importance of a classification of malignant tumors in the liver of infants and children has been
increasingly recognized within recent years, because a number of very young patients with hepato
blastoma have been found to survive surgical removal of the tumor for several years. The prognosis
of hepatocatcinoma, on the other hand, in these age-groups is poor.
It is the purpose of this paper to present the clinical, morphologic and follow up data on a case
of hepatoblastoma in one year and eight months old boy and to outline the patho-anatomical classifica
tion on the malignant tumors of infants and children.
